We know that for many buyers diesel powered vehicles are not that good when they are looking at the CO2 emissions and that these non-hybrid models are not an option. We urge everyone to think about it one more time since the vehicles like 2015 Audi A3 that are also delivered with diesel units can bring significantly lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Not so long ago it was hard to imagine and accept diesel powered luxury sedan on the U.S. market but the A3 sedan certainly does come with some great advantages. For many years diesel powered vehicles did not manage to parry to much more powerful and more refined gasoline powered vehicles but with technology improvements things are significantly changing.
2015 Audi A3 TDI Sedan
Under the hood of this model we have a new 2.0 liter inline four turbocharged diesel unit that now produces 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Previous TDI units of this displacement for the U.S. market delivered 140 hp, not a major difference but it should be felt especially when we know that it will offer impressive amount of torque. With lots of torque that is available at lower revs it will be possible to drive this vehicle in that optimal range so it would offer great fuel economy but still able to deliver decent performances without the need of venturing to higher revs. On top of this we have gear ratios that are optimized for a highway drive and always keep the engine at the right revs.
To further lower CO2 emission we have few technology solution added to this model and things like EGR or exhaust gas recirculation, DPF or diesel particulate filter and catalyst mounted closer to the engine that allows lower warm-up time. Intercooler is water cooled and further helps improving performances and fuel economy making this vehicle fun to drive and frugal.
Things that most drivers do not like about diesel engines are mostly related to the vibrations and noise that is produced by this type of engines. With significant improvements and reduction of internal friction, with addition of balancer shaft and lower vibrations we are getting one quite impressive upgrade.
Review Of 2015 Audi A3 TDI
There are still no official figures about performances and fuel economy but we do expect that the first numbers will be quite similar to the performances that are delivered by gasoline units of 1.8 and 2.0 liters. All those features and characteristics that we are getting from other models in Audi lineup will be also present here so we can expect to receive precise and agile drive machine.
It will be interesting to see if the diesel 2015 Audi A3 sedan will have decent amount of success and will be able to compete with sale numbers of gasoline models. From the beginning this model can be bought with six speed S Tronic dual clutch transmission, only automatic will be available.
