After GM bought the Daewoo car company it finally had the capability to build a small, easy to maintain and agile city car. This is the short history of the Chevy Spark which evolved from the older Daewoo Matiz. With the introduction of the 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV there is a good chance that the buyer’s interest will raise even further.
The 2015 Chevrolet Spark is a refresh of the old Chevy. This car received a facelift, revised engine and a better quality interior. You may ask why it got a refresh so early in the year but, this little car has been on the market since 2009, so the 2012 model in the US is actually a bit older than that. One of the best things that we now have, except the small gasoline engine is the quite capable electric motor and battery pack.
So, for the new year, the 2015 Chevrolet Spark, the roof line and its belt line are getting a redesign, being on a steeper slope than before. Also, it’s back gets a slight redesign, the lamps will follow the line of the car better. Some of the spy photos provided earlier this year suggest that the Chevy will most likely get a new front end, so, no more massive plastic covers for the old headlights that were covering half of its frontal area.
The car, most likely, will also get a revised engine. The 1.2 liter engine is great for city. It has great mileage, being capable of over 32 MPG (for the manual transmission) and over 28 MPG (for the four speed automatic). This tiny engine can develop up to 84 horsepower and over 80 pound-feet of torque, which may not seem too much for today’s standards but considering the car weighs little over 2200 pounds, the engine easily meets the needs for eager city driving!
2015 Chevrolet Spark EV Specs
When equipped with electric motor and battery pack this is heavier vehicle and that will be noticeable since the total weight is about 3000 lb or slightly less than 1500 kg. It offers 140 hp and incredible 400 NM of torque that is instantly available. Electricity is drained from 21 kWh batter pack and this setup allows acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.9 seconds while the max speed is 90 mph and quarter mile run is done in 16.4 seconds.
The 2015 Chevrolet Spark will have a few new features. It will most likely get an Opel Variant as well because Chevrolet will depart from Europe due to low sales. This is good and bad news because this means the car will probably get the German engineering and reliability but the funky style everyone loves will probably be left aside.
Review Of 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV
Besides the great little 1.2 liter engine you will also be able to get the new Spark as a electric vehicle (EV). It isn’t certain if this EV will be available both in the US and in EU or just in the US, but this little car will feature a 140 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The horsepower is perfectly reasonable for a modern car (even if it’s almost twice the normal Spark) but the torque of the EV is great (it’s more than the Ferrari 458, and the cool stuff about it is that is delivered almost immediately), and to top it all off , this little EV is rated at over 115 MPGe!
