There are many that are waiting for the 2015 Chevy Spark EV to be delivered to the market and we are among those. Latest report suggest that new model will be offered with slightly lower battery pack capacity but that it will also come with improved efficiency thankfully to its lower weight.
At this moment, currently delivered electric Spark’s are equipped with 21 kWh battery pack that has been developed and built by A123 Systems which has bankrupted and was also known as B456 System during this process. Instead of this 21 kWh pack it will provide 19 kWh pack version that will keep performances and range on the same level like it was the case with 2014 and previous models.
Changes For 2015 Chevy Spark EV
New battery pack will be developed and built using 192 cells from LG Chem. Entire package will be built in house by the company and according to reports it will be about 86 pounds lighter than the previously delivered 21 kWh pack. Same range will be again offered, about 82 miles can be travelled before the battery pack is completely depleted. Same efficiency is expected to be offered and that it will return 119 MPGe but both of these numbers depend on the weather and drive style.
Price of the 2015 Chevy Spark EV will be same like it was with 2014th model and we do expect to see it priced at $ 26,685 on which we need to add destination charge. Again the federal tax credit will be approved for these models and it will drop the price for about $7,500 which means that the total price that one will need to pay is about $ 19,995 with destination fee. It will be interesting to see the final results of these changes when this model comes to market.
Looking at the price it is quite obvious that this is one the most affordable electric vehicle in this segment but it is not all. When we compare the efficiency of this model with other similar vehicles on the road we can say that it also comes with pretty much highest efficiency level which makes it quite great choice for many. Features like 4G LTE, DC Fast Charging and Siri Eyes Free system further improves the overall offer we have here.
2015 Chevy Spark EV Review
Release date has not yet been officially announced but we do expect to see this model presented in the next few months, most likely in September or something similar. Production should start shortly after that which means that the first deliveries might happen even before the end of this year but more likely it will happen during the next year, at beginning.
This will further push the cooperation of LG Chem and GM with even larger number of cells that will be delivered to the Chevrolet and other car brands under GM. The Brownstown facility where the battery packs are created is also used for battery pack units that are offered in Cadillac ELR, Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera.
