There are the expectations that the production version of the 2015 Toyota Fuel Cell Hydrogen Vehicle will be presented during this year and that it will be offered on sale during 2015th, most likely at the beginning. From the Toyota CEO of the North America, Jim Lentz we could hear that he is confident and has more hope about this model than ever before.

Toyota invested a lot of effort in delivery of this technology and these vehicles but we are able to notice that U.S. market representatives of the company are certainly more interested in it than it is the case with their colleagues from Japan. It will be certainly interesting to see if this H2 vehicle will be able to attract desired number of buyers.

About ten years ago similar models were delivered, but than the price tag was set to $1 million and that was to justify the production costs. With introduction of improved technology price is dropped for about 95%, which is at least the statement from the CEO, Jim Lentz. Even this is most likely only a figure that will not be correct at the end we really could expect to see price tag of the final product set to about $50.000.

In similar situation this and other companies were when the hybrids were introduced to the market. Pretty slow acceptance is one of the things that needs to be solved and as a result slow sales could mean that only about 500.000 units would be shipped in the first decade or similar. Have in mind that these numbers are for U.S. market that usually has a high rate of acceptance when it comes to new technologies like this one.

At this point there still are a large number of things that we do not know about this model. We will have to wait for official launch and presentation to get more details but we still have few guesses to deliver. What we could hear is that there will be two hydrogen fuel tanks that can withstand 79 MPa and that those will be located under and behind the rear seat. One of those will be able to take up to five kg but the statement did not say anything about the other one that will be of a different size.

Further details are related to battery pack and electric motors. It is interesting that we will be getting battery pack with only 2 kWh capacity, when we compare this one with vehicles like Prius Plug-In Hybrid that offers 4.4 kWh and Fusion Energi that has 7.6 kWh Lithium Ion battery it is certainly interesting setup. Power output of electric motor that is under the hood is still not known but we could hear number of about 100 kW or 136 hp and that is more than 90 kW that we received in Highlander FCV that was offered few years ago.

There is no doubt that the 2015 Toyota Fuel Cell Hydrogen Vehicle will be offered with all the latest technology when it comes to powertrain and that display in modern interior will offer all the needed information’s. Computer will monitor temperature, pressure and similar features related to the amount of hydrogen that is located in tanks. This will allow precise prediction of the number of miles and the range that it can cover with the hydrogen currently stored in the tanks.

As we said there are expectations that this model will offer electric motor of about 100 kW but it will be certainly heavier than standard models in this segment. Knowing this it is obvious that it will have slightly lower performance figures than it would be expected with this amount of power from electric motor.
