Finally we are getting official information’s about the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. It has been confirmed by General Motors that the redesigned range extended vehicle will be officially presented at the Detroit Auto Show that starts in January so we will have to wait few more months for more details.
Few interesting facts were offered on the press conference and we could hear that more than 65,000 Volts were sold since this car debuted in U.S. all the way back in December of 2010th. Comparing it to main competitors it seems that this is the best-selling model on the U.S. market but at this moment Nissan Leaf is at about 58,000 sold units and it comes pretty fast. Have in mind that the numbers related to Leaf are from end of July so the number is slightly higher at the moment of article writing.
2016 Chevrolet Volt Changes
When we take a look at the trips that were taken by all those owners about 500 million miles were traveled and about 63 percent were covered with usage of grid electricity only. Rest of the miles was traveled with the help of gasoline unit that sends power to generator that produces electricity for battery pack and electric motor. This gasoline unit is capable of returning 37 miles per gallon in combined drive cycle. This number is offered by EPA and still is a quite good.
During this presentation we were also able to see a first teaser image of new 2016 Chevrolet Volt. At this point only the rear segment has been shown and we can see that it will offer slightly more rounded back segment and that it will still be a hatchback. Just like it was the case with its predecessors it will be offered as a five door hatchback.
Things about the new 2016 Chevrolet Volt are still wheel kept secret but we do expect to see some nice upgrades and this includes more range and higher efficiency of powertrain. Previous rumors suggested that instead 101/93 mpg in city/highway driving it will return about 10 percent more. Also instead of the 38 miles on a fully charged battery it could return more than 40 miles with few tweaks and improvements but have in mind that these are only rumors at this moment.
Review Of 2016 Chevrolet Volt
With upgraded powertrain, improved looks, better efficiency and all segments pushed further we are getting one modern vehicle that will offer significant savings on the fuel bill when compared to standard vehicles. Over the last few years we could hear from current Volt buyers that they would definitely buy another one and that is something we don’t see often. Fan base is large and strong so we do think that the 2016 Chevrolet Volt will bring quite good sale results.
Another interesting fact is about the buyers profile. Large number of Volt buyers, about 70 percent, is new to Chevrolet which means that this car managed to attract large number of new customers to the brand. Will it be the case with the 2016 Chevrolet Volt we will see after the official launch that is scheduled for Detroit Auto Show.
