With the Honda Accord Hybrid, Japanese car maker managed to achieve decent sale results but there is a problem and a reason why many more units were not sold during the last few months. According to reports Honda is not getting enough battery packs for this model and as a result we are getting low number of vehicles available on the market and to buyers.
Over the last few years we were able to see that hybrid vehicles that Honda delivered to the market did not manage to attract larger number of buyers. Second generation of Insight was a pretty huge disappointment, expectations were much higher and now its production is coming to an end. Another model that has not live up to the expectations is the CR-Z and according to reports it seems that only 4550 were sold in the U.S. during the last year. About problems that CR-Z had we talked a lot, it was obvious that the power it delivers is not enough to attract many buyers and can’t follow the looks of the car while the fuel economy is far less than impressive.
Honda Accord Hybrid Sale Results
At this moment the Honda Accord Hybrid could be the way and the vehicle that can significantly improve position of the Japanese car maker on the hybrid market. In last five months about 2414 units were sold on the U.S. market while in the first three months of the sale they managed to sell about 6000 cars in Japan. These are far better results but we do expect that the sale results on U.S. market will be even better if the problem with battery supply is solved.
As we said battery supply is crucial for the increase of the sales but also the popularity of this model in Japan. Even the car for the U.S. market is built in Marysville battery pack comes from Japan and it seems that Honda decided to place domestic market in front of the U.S. market, because of that more models were delivered to domestic than U.S. market. According to Jeff Conrad, Honda General Manager, there is a waiting list for this model which reflects the high popularity of it.
From the Chris Martin, spokesperson of Honda we were able also to hear that they are working on finding solution for the battery issue. Main goal is to increase production of battery packs that will be delivered to the hybrid models in their lineup and among the most important is the Accord Hybrid.
If this problem gets solved than Honda will be able to increase the amount of marketing that is related and delivered to the hybrid model. As a result we are pretty sure that the sales will further increase on all markets and it is in Honda’s best interest that something like this happens.
Honda Accord Hybrid Specs And Price
Here is just a short reminder about Honda Accord Hybrid and what it offers. Under the hood we have 2.0 liter gasoline engine that produces 137 hp, this unit is combined with 124 kW electric motor that gets the electricity from 6.7 kWh Lithium Ion battery pack. With 196 hp that can be delivered by this hybrid system it is more than enough for most drivers and the fact that about 10 to 15 miles of electric power only driving is possible certainly is something that many will like. Expected fuel economy for the 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid is from 45 to 50 mpg while the price should be again under $40.000.
