We know that hybrid powertrain will reduce fuel consumption but it also can be used to further improve performances of vehicle and that is something that we were able to lately see with few supercars. The 2015 Audi TT Offroad Hybrid Concept is delivered with great setup allowing it to offer fantastic performance figures and significantly lower fuel consumption.
At the Beijing Auto Show we were able to see this model and it is nothing new that all major car makers and Audi with them, are looking for ways to further improve their offer. Not so long ago we were able to see sketches of this model but now it is official and we have decent amount of details, better say, we have all those most important details about it. This concept represents the vehicle that could be delivered to the TT lineup in the future, those were the words of Prof. Dr. Urlich Hackenberg, Member of the Board Of Management for technical Development.
2015 Audi TT Offroad Hybrid Concept
Design and powertrain are the combination of sportiness and design language that is used for the new TT while it comes with advantages that SUV vehicles offer. Sporty genes are something that was always available from vehicles in German car maker lineup and this one further pushes this fact.
Under the hood of the 2015 Audi TT Offroad Hybrid Concept we are getting heavily tuned 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine that pumps out 292 hp and is paired with two electric motors. Front wheels are powered by the 40 kW electric unit while the rear wheels receive power from the 85 kW unit. In this setup total power of the system is about 408 hp, quite impressive and is even more impressive when we add the fact that it offers about 480 pound feet of torque that are available almost instantly thankfully to a quick spool of turbocharger and fact that electric units deliver power from lowest revs.
Performances that can be achieved with all-wheel drive setup and this amount of power are quite respectful. Reports suggest that sprint from 0 to 62 mph is done in 5.2 seconds while the top speed is limited to 155 mph. Another benefit of hybrid powertrains that we mentioned before is the improved fuel efficiency and according to the car manufacturer this vehicle will return 123 mpg. There are no details about these tests and if these results were achieved at the European cycle tests or similar.
Review Of 2015 Audi TT Offroad Hybrid Concept
What we do know is the fact that the battery pack will store 12 kWh and that this is enough to power the 2015 Audi TT Offroad Hybrid Concept on electric power only for about 31 miles or about 50 km. In pure electric mode, when the highest possible efficiency is needed only the rear electric unit will work. This way every driver will be able to achieve up to 130 km/h before gasoline unit jumps in and deliver more power and higher speed.
Even it is only a concept at this point, we are getting pretty great looks on the interior and what it could offer. It is obviously inspired with Virtual Cockpit Technology that Audi will bring in the future models. Main and most prominent feature is the 12.3 inch display that offers 3D graphic of high quality and allows driver to monitor almost all systems in vehicle. Things like cabin ionizer and similar features are offered to further push the luxury level of the interior.
