At the Geneva Motor Show we were able to see the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer officially presented and it seems that this lineup will not be powered with gasoline engines only. According to reports we could hear German car maker is preparing the 2015 BMW 2 Series Active Hybrid Tourer and we have the spy photos to confirm this.
If we would ignore few of those hybrid stickers that can be seen on the passenger door and the rear bumper it would be easy to mistaken this model for a standard Active Tourer 2 Series. Both of these stickers say ” Hybrid Test Vehicle” and it is quite obvious that BMW is preparing to deliver hybrid in this segment.
We are still waiting for the official information’s about the powertrain that will be used in this model but according to reports it seems that the similar setup will be used here like in the Concept Active Tourer model. Have in mind that these details have not yet been confirmed and that we will need to wait little longer for official details about it.
Specs Of BMW 2 Series Active Hybrid Tourer
If the same powertrain is delivered then we would be getting the 2015 BMW 2 Series Active Hybrid Tourer with about 190 hp of total system power output. Concept used combination of 1.5 liter three cylinder turbocharged engine that was helped out by the electric motor. With about 190 hp and 147 pound feet of torque this model will certainly offer decent performances and in this category we could hear that it would accelerate from 0 to 62 in less than 8 seconds. Turbocharged gasoline unit will deliver about 136 hp alone and the rest should be offered from electric motor.
Battery pack capacity has not yet been officially declared but we could hear that it will be able to travel for about 19 miles on electric range. That was the case with the concept and it could be same with the production ready model. As we said, there are no confirmation’s that the same powertrain will be used but there is a good chance to see identical setup. Fuel consumption has not yet been declared but rumors suggest that 50 mpg is achievable when using both power sources.
Release date or the price of the 2015 BMW 2 Series Active Hybrid Tourer is not known yet but the gasoline powered version will be offered during the 2015th. If this happens then we do expect that hybrid model will be delivered slightly after that. Test car that has been pictured looks pretty complete and production ready which again suggests that it will be delivered to the market pretty soon. Talking about the price estimations suggest that it could be priced at $35,000 but at this point these are only predictions.
2015 BMW 2 Series Active Hybrid Tourer Review
One of the biggest problems for the 2015 BMW 2 Series Active Hybrid Tourer will be the competition. Main competitor in this segment is the Ford C-Max Energi that uses combination of 2.0 liter Atkinson cycle inline four cylinder and electric motor to deliver 188 hp and 129 pound-feet of torque. EPA ratings say that it will return about 43 mpg in combined drive cycle and that it will be able to run for about 21 miles per charge. Price is set to about $33,000 which is again slightly lower than in the case of BMW model.
