Both Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf are quite important vehicles for the fuel economy and environment conscious drivers. These two represent slightly different approach to the fuel consumption reduction and because of this we are delivering comparison of 2015 Nissan Leaf and 2015 Chevrolet Volt.
First LEAF was delivered all the way back in 2010 when it was launched at the Japanese and U.S. market and it represented compact five door hatchback all electric vehicle. We expect that the new model, for 2015th, will be introduced during the next few months while the sales should start before the end of this year but have in mind that the changes will be minor and that we are getting almost identical vehicle.
Similar situation is with the 2015 Chevrolet Volt that will also come as a carryover and quite similar to 2014th version. When it comes to release date and sale start it will be similar situation like with LEAF and we do expect it to be officially offered pretty soon.
2015 Chevrolet Volt
Both models are offered with front wheel drive and Leaf has electric motor that pumps out 80 kw or 110 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. Electricity is drawn from modern 24 kW Lithium Ion battery pack that can provide about 70 miles of range per charge. This can vary depending on traffic conditions and will offer better results in city than on highway. More power is delivered with Volt that is capable of pushing about 111 kW or 149 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque while the 16.5 kWh Lithium Ion battery pack can provide up to 50 miles of electric only range. After battery is depleted or is close to be depleted 1.4 liter inline four cylinder gasoline engine will kick in and power the generator to produce electricity. With this system it will offer range of up to 350 miles which will allow range anxiety reduction.
2015 Nissan Leaf
Range extend option is the biggest difference between these two models and it certainly gives the edge to Volt but there is decent number of drivers that will still opt for Leaf because it is electric only vehicle. Build quality is on decent level for both models and we will deliver additional attention to both interior and exterior.
For the 2015 Chevrolet Volt we are getting recognizable grille of this company that has received few changes so it would be more aerodynamic and improve efficiency. With long and laid back headlights it will certainly offer decent level of elegance but also aggressive looks. On the interior side the center console is dominated with 7 inch display which will deliver most important info about car but also things like OnStar system, Chevy MyLink, HD radio and more. Both cloth and leather are available and those bring quite good quality and comfortable interior.
2015 Nissan Leaf Vs 2015 Chevrolet Volt
Its competitor in this article, 2015 Nissan Leaf brings impressive front logo that hides the charging port. Premium materials in interior are used and everything is fitted nicely. One of the things that we noticed and must commend is the fact that sound insulation is on high level and that while driving it will provide quiet and sound free ride. Through a touchscreen all the systems in this vehicle will be monitored and features like climate control and navigation will be controlled through this.
Another important segment in which these two vehicles need to be compared is the price. For the 2015 Chevrolet Volt we will have to pay about $34.000 while for the 2015 Nissan Leaf starting price is set to slightly less than $29.000. Both of these prices are for base models but Volt should come with better and more features, also have in mind that both of these vehicles will get you tax refund and few other benefits.
