2016 Audi Q7 E-Tron Redesign And Interior

One of the biggest news on the 2015 Detroit Auto Show will be the all new generation of the Q7. Rumors suggest that the 2016 Audi Q7 E-Tron will be a part of the lineup of this model that is on the market with almost no changes from 2006 making it the oldest model in the German car maker lineup.

For us the 2016 Audi Q7 E-Tron is the most interesting version but still we need to praise features that the new generation model will bring. Most important changes include new hi-tech features and upgrades to the engines we could see in previous models. That is not all since the all-new Q7 will comes with much lighter body and chassis, we could hear that it will lose about 700 pounds and that the total weight will be slightly below 4,400 pounds. This is even more impressive when we add the fact that this model will come with identical dimensions to the currently available model.

Rumors about the new plug-in hybrid were delivered and available for quite some time and we could already see the pictures of a test vehicle, with a lot of camouflage but still it was a clear proof that Audi is preparing something new. What we could hear is that the 2016 Audi Q7 E-Tron will come as a combination of six cylinder turbocharged diesel engine and electric motor. Power of this powertrain will be transferred to all four wheels through a tested and proven Quattro system.

When it comes to power we will have one quite capable model. The 2016 Audi Q7 E-Tron combines 258 diesel V6 power with 94 kW electric unit for a total power of 373 hp and max torque of 516 lb-ft. It is interesting to add that Audi announced that this car will be able to hit 60 mph from standstill in very good 6.0 seconds and that when driven on electric power only it will need 6.1 seconds to reach 60 km/h or about 37 mph. Fuel economy, at least on the European test, are 138.4 mpg while the CO2 emissions are less than 50 g/km. Electric part of the powertrain will allow you to get about 35 miles on battery power only and that can be enough for most of your daily commutes.

Entire 2016 Audi Q7 lineup and engines have received many upgrades. The 3.0 liter TDI V6 unit pumped 240 hp and 406 pound-feet of torque in previous generation while the all new version will push 272 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. This might not look that much but with better adjusted power and torque curves acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph has been reduced from 7.3 to 6.3 seconds. When we add that the expectations from Audi are that this model will return 41.3 mpg, we expect this number to be slightly lower on EPA tests, it will certainly be one of the models with best fuel efficiency on the market.

Second option for the U.S. market will be the supercharged 3.0 liter gasoline unit will offer 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque instead 280 hp and 29 lb-ft of torque in previous version. When we combine the power increase with weight lose it is quite clear why it is able to reduce acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph from 7.7 seconds to great 6.1 seconds. All versions will be paired to the eight speed automatic transmission and improved Quattro all-wheel drive system. Center locking differential is integrated with the transmission and it also helps out with weight reduction.

2016 Audi Q7 E-Tron Interior

All models that will come in this lineup will offer great looking interior just like it is always the case with Audi. Dashboard looks quite well executed and we can notice that its styling cues come from Audi A6, A7 and A8 model while the pop-up navigation screen could be slightly bigger. Traditional dials that we have in most cars will be replaced with big 12.3 inch TFT that gives it a virtual cockpit look. This will be pretty much standard on all versions so expect this to be offered on plug-in hybrid model also.

Release Date

Things like release date and price have not been yet confirmed but we do expect the 2016 Audi Q7 E-Tron to be one of the most expensive if not the most expensive version.
